Local Insights
Locals and frequent riders of Ephraim’s trails offer valuable tips that can enhance your UTV riding experience. Before heading out, it’s important to check trail conditions. Spring and early summer can bring muddy paths due to melting snow, while late summer and fall offer drier, more stable conditions. Websites and local ranger stations can provide updated information on trail conditions.
When preparing for your ride, it’s essential to carry gear such as a GPS device or map, plenty of water, snacks, a first-aid kit, and basic tools for UTV maintenance. The weather can change quickly, so packing layers and rain gear is also a good idea. Safety is a top priority, so wearing helmets and other protective gear is strongly encouraged. Always let someone know your planned route and estimated return time, and consider carrying a satellite phone or emergency beacon since cell phone coverage can be spotty in remote areas.
Respecting the environment and other trail users is crucial. Stay on designated trails to prevent erosion and habitat damage, and pack out all trash. Yield to hikers and horseback riders, and keep speeds moderate in populated areas.

What Our Riders Say: Unforgettable UTV Adventures from Ephraim to Horseshoe Mountain
Many of our customers who want to explore the uneven trails are choosing this part of the Arapeen OHV Trails. Here is their experience from Ephraim to Orangeville Canyon Trail with renting side by side and driving on Utah off-roading trails:
“From the Utah UTV Rentals location, you can head straight up the mountain on our UTVs and see some of Utah’s most breathtaking scenery on the Arrapean OHV trail system. One of our favorite rides is to head up New Canyon and then either up the Scows Hole Trail or just on up New Canyon and stop at New Canyon Lake, you can head up the Microwave Trail or Left Hand Fork depending on how adventurous you’re feeling.
You’ll then make your way up to the Skyline Drive either by way of the Microwave Trail, or Left-Hand Fork and up Ephraim Canyon. You’ll then head south on the Skyline Drive to the famous Horseshoe Mountain where you can stop and look out over the Sanpete Valley from nearly eleven thousand feet above sea level. When you catch your breath from that amazing view, you can head down onto the Clay Bank and down Little’s Canyon, be sure to keep your eyes peeled on your way down Little’s Canyon, we’ve seen everything from foxes to deer and elk, on that trail. When you get down the trail about eight or nine miles, you’ll come to a beautiful little lake called Grassy Lake, this is a great place to stop and fish and have lunch or just enjoy the view.
When you’re ready to move on you can keep following that trail out towards Orangeville Canyon Trail, that’ll take you back up towards Skyline Drive, but don’t drive past the Pete’s Hole turn-off, you’ll see the sign about three miles up the Orangeville Canyon Road from where you come out of the Little’s Canyon Trail. Pete’s Hole is another beautiful little lake where you can fish or just enjoy the scenery. You could also pack along an inflatable paddle board and enjoy any of those little lakes from on the water. When you’re ready to head back you can go back out to Orangeville Trail and follow that right back to Skyline Drive where you can head back to the North a couple miles and come down the Ephraim Canyon Road back to town.”
