Among these is the Ephraim Canyon Side Trail, a small yet captivating 8-mile trail near our location. This moderate trail is perfect for beginners looking to hone their UTV driving skills while experiencing stunning scenery. Getting There
This trail begins off the main Ephraim Canyon Road, 2 miles from the canyon’s entrance. After 2.8 miles, turn right onto Willow Creek Road. Travel another 1.4 miles and take the side trail 51230. Up to this point, you’re on dirt roads. When you turn left onto 51230, the trail narrows and winds through trees. This section is very scenic with some rocky parts, making it lower intermediate in difficulty. After about 3.4 miles, the trail rejoins Ephraim Canyon Road. The total distance is just under 8 miles.

Difficulty
Rated as a moderate trail, the Ephraim Canyon Side Trail is not recommended for first-time UTV drivers to tackle alone. The terrain requires a certain level of experience, making it advisable to have a companion with advanced UTV driving skills. The trail surface is predominantly dirt, with occasional muddy patches, adding to the overall challenge.

The Ephraim Canyon Side Trail is accessible to all off-road vehicles, including larger UTVs, ATVs, small UTVs, and Jeeps. Its inclusivity makes it a popular choice among a wide range of off-road adventurers.
Best Time to Drive on Ephraim Canyon Side Trail
The best time to visit is Summer and Fall, because of the difficulty of the trail we do not recommend driving there on snowy and ice paths. Because of the high points during the spring, it might have some areas with snow and ice even in the late spring months. Near this trail is a snowmobile area and if you are a fan of winter drive this trail offers everything.
Surface
The trail primarily consists of dirt, with potential muddy sections depending on the weather. The terrain’s variability adds an extra layer of excitement, ensuring a dynamic off-road experience.
Main Canyon Parking Lot
The primary access point for Ephraim Canyon, the Main Canyon Parking Lot, is conveniently located on the canyon road, approximately 3.4 miles after the road shifts direction towards the mountains. This trailhead is well-equipped with facilities, including a bathroom, making it a comfortable starting point for visitors.
Directly adjacent to the parking lot, on the north side of the road, you’ll find the endpoint of the Pinecone segment of the Pioneer Trail. This location is ideal for those looking to explore the different facets of the trail system within Ephraim Canyon.
Additionally, the beginning of the Gravity Trail is just a short journey uphill. To reach it, head around the corner to the right from the parking lot. This placement makes the Main Canyon Parking Lot a central hub for accessing multiple trails, offering a variety of experiences for outdoor enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike.
Lake Hill Campground
Located just five miles from Ephraim, Utah, at an elevation of 8,400 feet, Lake Hill Campground offers a picturesque setting beside the charming Lake Hill Reservoir. The campground is nestled within a diverse forest composed of spruce, fir, and aspen trees, providing varying degrees of shade across the different sites. While some sites are more open and exposed, others enjoy more shelter, catering to a range of preferences.
